- Jamie Marie Kern Lima was born on July 17th, 1977 in San Rafael, California. After completing her early education, Kern Lima became the first member of her family to attend college. She went to Washington State University, where she graduated valedictorian with a 4.0 CGPA. After this, she went to Columbia Business School to receive her Masters of Business Administration. During this time, she worked multiple jobs to support herself and her studies. These jobs included working as a waitress at Denny’s and Bagging groceries at Safeway.
Business Career
- After graduating from Columbia Business School, she started working as a news reporter for KNDU initially as a morning news anchor and then as a field reporter. She worked there for two years and in 2006 she moved to Portland, Oregon where she started working for KPTV as a news anchor.
In 2008, Kern Lima co-founded IT Cosmetics. The idea for the company came after her experiencing difficulties with makeup and other beauty products due to suffering from rosacea and hyperpigmentation. During the early years of the company’s launch, her business was unsuccessful because a lot of the beauty retailers were rejecting her products. After all the initial struggles, Kern Lima was given a 10-minute QVC segment where she illustrated the proper use of her IT cosmetic products and all her products sold out before the broadcast was over.
Becoming the First CEO of L’Oreal
- By the time 2015 had rolled around her company had made more than $182 million in overall sales. During the period between 2008 and 2015, she had been featured in more than 1000 QVC shows. These appearances played a big part in making IT Cosmetics the largest beauty brand on the entire QVC network.
Because of this constant success and growth in the company’s business, IT cosmetics was acquired by L’Oreal on July 22nd, 2016 for a reported amount of $1.2 billion. Kern Lima remained with the company after the acquisition was finalized and became the first Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of a L’Oreal brand. After working for the company for three years, Kern Lima announced in August 2019 that she would be parting ways with the company to pursue other business opportunities.

- Kern Lima appeared on a Baywatch episode after winning a college search in 1999. In addition to this appearance, she participated in and won the title of Miss Washington in late 1999 and after that appeared in the 2000 Miss USA pageant which was held in Branson, Missouri. She also appeared on the First Season of the popular reality television show Big Brother where she was the last female houseguest left.
